A great workshop from our friends at Tranquil Space...
And love, love , love, love...
By lil omm , 12:02 PM
I have already started working on my 2011 goals, reflections and looking back at the amazing year that 2010 was. In one short year, our fabulous little yoga home opened and has grown and flourished into this amazing community. I am SO looking forward to next year ALREADY... In 2011, we will partner with Music Together, Stroller Strides, Palisades Village, Crossway Community, Capital Hill Arts Workshop, The Lab School, offer FREE new mom support groups and FREE lactation support groups. Wow... who knew one little space would become a community center for moms, families, and more.
Someone recently asked me what other classes and programs I would like to do and offer at lil omm...and I thought back to the original creative plan for lil omm. On the list of things to offer were all of the classes/workshops that are on our schedule now and coming in 2011... and so with great pride and humble attitude I am at peace with knowing that we are evolving into a MEANINGFUL place for DC families.
My heart races with delight when I see a new mom excited about taking "Baby First Foods" or the bonds that are being created in Itsy Bitsy Yoga. Sharing and creating space where learning, playing, practicing and being are at the core of who we are and what we do.
And this time of year, the written words on cards of students so grateful for their yoga practice and the smiles of the babies on all the cards filling the studio reception- brings joy to all. And that's what yoga is. Connection, love, growth, meaningfulness in our everyday lives and practice.
Today was an "ordinary" day for me.. take Saylor to school, work my tush in TOUGH, relax in joy with LOVE, teach babies and mamas yoga, host an AMAZING healthy lunch surrounded by fabulous teachers, students, and children. Come home, work on the computer and reflect about the fulfillment that this life brings. This Wednesday, like any other Wednesday bringing me so much joy because of the community you have all created, and become part of. So with that, happy happy holidays, filled with love and gratitude ALL through the year for what life brings us and for being at peace with whatever comes our way.

Dr. Ohm's professional mission is to provide Doctors of Chiropractic with the skills and motivation to care for more pregnant mothers and children. She is committed to educating other practitioners with the information to support natural birthing in their practices. It is her understanding that birth trauma is a current chiropractic concern, and therefore it has become her goal to eliminate its damaging effects on the
newborn. She intends to accomplish this by:
* adequately training DC's in specific chiropractic techniques and care for pregnancy, birth & infancy for the promotion of natural birthing.
* forming national alliances for chiropractors with like-minded birth practitioners and attendants
* empowering mothers to make informed choices in pregnancy and birth
* offering patient educational tools which address this issue
Dr. Ohm is married to Dr. Thomas Ohm, Chiropractor. They have six children who have all received chiropractic care since conception. They were all born at home and are living the chiropractic family wellness lifestyle.
I was wondering if you could announce this meeting to the members of the Lil Omm Community or any other birthing professional you know that would be greatly appreciated. And if people are interested could they please email me @ drharris@trucentered.com so I can add them to our guest list so we can make sure we can accomodate the interest. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Thank you for entertaining this conversation.
With Love and Gratitude,

featured teacher: meet cristina khun
By Mama Bear , 12:10 PM
Cristina is a true embodiment of everything important to lil omm. She is a mother who found her yoga through daughter Ellis, and can now be see at lil omm both teaching classes and taking classes as an integral part of our community!
Cristina discovered the total benefits of yoga relatively late in life, after the birth of her second child. She had been practicing the asanas for several years before then, at the gym, at the occasional studio, in her living room, but it was not yoga; it was exercise. With two active little boys in her life and an emotionally demanding career, she was slowly starting to lose her balance. She thought she should start taking better care of herself and joined a new gym in the hopes of doing just that. Little did she know how much better she would begin to feel not only physically, but also mentally and spiritually. Under the guidance of Kelly Griswold, a Certified Anusara Teacher, and Danielle Brand-Lemond, a Kripalu Certified Teacher, she truly discovered Yoga.
The next major event to take Cristina deeper into her practice was the birth of her third child. Even when she was pregnant with her daughter, she was starting to consider teacher training as an avenue to deepen her practice. Once her daughter was born, it was no longer something she was considering; it was something she was compelled to do. Her daughter knew something Cristina did not. Her daughter had a wisdom Cristina did not. Her daughter was only two weeks old, but the peace in her soul was palatable. Cristina signed up for Pure Prana’s Holistic Teacher Training Program and began her training when her daughter was 4 months old.
Upon nearing the completion of her training, Cristina began to realize that her training was not only deepening her practice, but also deepening her desire to share all the she had learned.
She had found her dharma. She began teaching immediately upon graduation when one of her mentors herself was having a baby and needed a sub while on maternity leave. As she began to round out her teaching schedule as a full time yoga teacher at a few area yoga studios, she discovered a new little studio that was soon to open in DC called Lil Omm. She adored the studio’s family focused mission and energy (and name!) and knew, that when given the chance to teach there, she would jump on the opportunity to do so. A few months later, she taught her first class at Lil Omm and she is loving every minute she spends with the Lil Omm community.
She currently teaches 4 classes at the studio:
Monday 10:45-11:45AM Postnatal
Tuesday 6:15-7:15AM Adult Yoga
Tuesday 11:00-12:00AM Movers & Me
Wednesday 6:15-7:15AM Adult Yoga
You will often see her at the studio with her inspiration, daughter Ellis, not only teaching butalso taking classes from all of the other fabulous teachers at the studio. She believes that we are one, and if we are compassionate to ourselves we can be compassionate to all beings. One step towards peace for one is one leap towards peace for all.
